existing settings, drivers etc? is it possible to drag&drop the entire local

The best option is to clone the old HD to the new one with "Example" True
image or Ghost or a similair program.

Make sure to exchange physical drive positions and BIOS priorities BEFORE
starting up the cloned copy.

The easiest option is to clone the drive using Acronis True Image or a
similar cloning/imaging application. But, as John Barnes points out in his
post 'make sure you you change the physical drive positions and BIOS
priorities before you start up the cloned copy.' This is something you can
easily overlook.

Just to be clear with the BIOS priorities, if the current drive is number 1
in boot priority, make sure the cloned drive is number 1 in boot priority
before starting the new system. This may or may not require you to change
anything, just check and change if necessary. Also, if you clone the entire
drive you should be okay, if you are only cloning 1 partition of several to
the new drive, you will have many more considerations. Also you will be
safer if you leave the old drive disconnected the first time you boot your
new system, after the drive is properly enumerated, you can plug in the
other drive and use it however you want.
