Is this what Microsoft are doing now? If you buy Vista and then upgrade your motherboard you have to buy Vista again?!!

sorry PG, but in reality you can change MBs

Yes you can, I have done so. ;)

The Vista OEM Licence states that the OS is 'supposedly' tied to the MB ... that is, if you change the MB, you need to buy another copy of Vista.

However, this does not seem to bother MS, but you will need to re-activate by phoning MS ... simply tell them that your previous MB had failed & you had to replace it ... they ain't too concerned, but I wouldn't keep phoning them every week for a new Key. ;)

Yes, according to the OEM Licence. If you buy a Boxed version of Vista, then NO you can do the same as XP

This is primarily aimed at OEM system builders like Dell HP etc.,

For those of us that 'self build' and buy OEM software, 'cos it's cheaper, then MS do seem to take a lighter stance on the OEM Licence ... don't quote me on that. ;)

I can tell you ... I have Vista Home Premium OEM and I have changed the MB ... yes, I had to re-activate by phone to MS. Three min job, done!

No, you are correct in what the Licence states ... I just found MS was very accomodating in "allowing" me to change MBs. ;)

I don't agree to any Software Licence ... I verbally state to any software I install ... "I do NOT agree to this Licence" ... :D

For the same reason, I have never had any car insurance. Sorry, I don't like being conned.
