Vista not Recognizing CD or DVD Disks

Hi,

I ran both the beta and RC1 with no problems. I have the following 2 drives
in my machine:

Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1102
TSST corp CD/DVDW SH-W 162Z

They both worked correctly prior to installation of the retail version of
Ultimate. Vista recognises both drives and states that they are both working
correctly. However, on insertion of an audio CD or DVD however, absolutely
nothing happens. If I click on the drive it just opens up, rejecting the disk
and I get a "Insert a Disk" message. Additionally, the icon does change from
DVD to CD in Computer when I insert a CD.

Search hasn't given me any results. Any clues greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Have you configured Windows Media Player correctly?. Are the latest patches
installed?. Have you checked Event Viewer for error messages or codes?.

Have you specified the drives as primary audio /video playback/recording
devices in Windows?.

Yes to all. Interestingly, if I boot/reboot with a disk in one of the drives
then that drive then functions correctly during that session.

Interestingly, I am having the exact same problem with a Samsung SATA
Drive: TSSTcorp CD/DVDW SH-S183L SCSI CdRom. The only way I can getVistato acknowledge anydiscin the drive is to boot with it in the
drive. I've looked for drivers for the ASUS motherboard, but there are
no updates for it onVista. Any suggestions???

Guys,

after struggling with this problem, i decided to replace the 80-
conductor ATA100 cable with a 40-conductor ATA33/IDE cable.

To my surprise the problem went away !

Greetings
