I've noticed after my clean install of Windows Vista Home Premium and Norton
360 software that my computer is running almost 10 times better then it did
with Windows XP and McAfee.

On top of Window Vista's obvious improvements to its operating system and
performance over the previous versions,Norton 360 adds more then just a
layer of protection from viruses, spyware, Trojans, etc.. but it also keeps
your computer and OS tuned, clean, and running smooth. It runs Disk
Clean-Ups, Tunes your PC, Defragments your drive, and even backs up 2gb of
your computer to a online storage that you receive free when you purchase
the product. My favorite feature is the "Fix Now" button that reviews
everything and if anything is wrong, you click one button and Norton 360
gets to work making your computer run the way it and windows vista intended.

I Would suggest if you have an extra $50-60 to invest it into Norton 360...
It's an amazing piece of software that maintains vistas performance and
keeps it clean.

Rocco, I would have to agree with you. I also upgraded to Norton 360 and my
system is running much much better. I have a Inspiron 1505, 2 dual core
processor (2 ghz) w/ 2 GB Ram and it was not until I got 360 did I seem to
get a stable system....

Mcafee is almost always a performance killer on machines I have worked on.
Norton is just as useless, do you work for them?

It is bad enough most pre-built systems come with one or the other, it is
even worse that people pay for this junk, especially when it takes seconds
to get recommendations for good, and free, alternatives.

Hey, I ususally agree about McAfee and Norton. My experience in the past has
almost always been bad. I gave 360 a chance on the advise of a co-worker and
this time was surprised. And no, I do not work for either...lol....Anyway, it
worked for me and thats all I'm saying.....

I have to agree.
Norton 2007 with XP hogs the computer. (even though its only from time to
time its annoying)
However, Norton 360 with Vista is a completely different story.
Both 360 and Vista have been designed to perform such background tasks much
more intelligently and unobtrusively.
In my experience they do seem to deliver on this point.
I too was sceptical but decided to give Norton one more chance before
ditching it.
Everybody will have their own opinion (prejudices) but I for one am happy
with my decision.

My experience has been different. I cannot open my Norton 360. I get the
runtime error that says: C++ Runtime Library, Program: c:\program
files\common files\symantec shared\ccApp.exe. I have reinstalled Norton 360
at least FOUR TIMES. My computer is an HP m7480n. I have been informed by HP
that my version of Vista is a "retail" version instead of their OEM version.
I'm not sure if this is the source of the problem, but I'm not very happy
with the combination of Norton 360, Vista and HP. I'm a consumer, not a
troubleshooter for these companies. Is there a fix for this? Every time I
reinstall Norton 360 it works until I reboot, then I get the runtime error.
That means that when I want to do Live Update, I have to REINSTALL NORTON 360
AGAIN. I'm not sure if the "bad guy" is HP (for not notifying customers that
they need to buy the HP version of Vista), Microsoft, or Symantec. I've asked
all for help. I've seen various web sites and software that claim to fix
"ccApp.exe" problems, but I'm not sure if I should trust them. Any advice?

My guess would be that the better performance is due to the 2G of RAM with
dual core, rather than Norton performing better. My antivirus runs faster
under Vista mostly due to the 2G RAM, as opposed to the 500M RAM that I was
using before.
