Hi
I am running Vista BETA2 and I have a question regarding having one or more
network connections enabled at the same time and I would appreciate some
adice please.
Ok, after installing Vista I checked in Device Manager and noticed that both
my "wired" (Intel(R) PRO/1000CT NIC) and "wireless" (Broadcom 802.11g)
network adapters were installed correctly and without problems, but only my
wired connection was shown in the "Network and Sharing Center" (N & SC)
My wired connection was up and running and I was able to connect to the
internet to activate Vista, but my wireless connection was not because it
requires a security key before it will connect and that's obviously why it
was not shown in the "N & SC".
I clicked on "Connect to a network" and chose "Wireless" and after entering
the appropriate info, I clicked on connect and it was done. I now had two
network connections running.
I then went back to the "N & SC" and saw that both wired and wireless
connections were shown there but I noticed that the "wired" connection
"Local and Internet" and the "wireless" connection only had "Local". This
was confirmed when I clicked on the "Status" button and for IPv4
Connectivity/IP6 Connectivity, it showed "Local" for for both, but for the
Wired" connection it showed IPv4 Connectivity: Internet, and for IPv6
Connectivity: Local.
When I disconnected the "wired" connection from my router, the "N & SC"
refreshed itself and the "wireless" connection was now showing IPv4
Connectivity: Internet, and for IPv6 Connectivity: Local.
So, my question is: When you have wired and wireless network/internet
connections enabled at the same time, does Vista only allow one of those
connections to be both Internet and Local, and the other, Local only?
Many thanks
Dave
