I have a Dell Latitude D820 DuoCore Celeron laptop
I have install 32 Bit Vista Ultimate (not 64 Bit)

I also have a desktop 2 processot Xeon (32 bit) machine with hyperthreading
enabled. XP and Vista available on this.

My query is centred around the machines multitasking when IO is involved:

- When the desktop machine goes on one of those never ending IO operations I
can multask and do something else on it.
- When the laptop goes on one of those never ending IO operations, I can't
multitask onto something else... As a dual processor its a bit of a lemon!

Any ideas.

There is a way to peg a particular EXE to only execute on one processor.
I've read about it, haven't needed to do it, so the details are hazy, but
you might google (or search Vista's help system) for "processor affinity". I
distinctly remember those two words used...

Right click on the process in the Processes tab of Task Manager to set the
affinity. However, this is not permanent.
