My daughter has a movie created on Vista and saved to flash drive. She needs
to save it on windows xp so her teacher can watch it. Problem is that xp
won't recognize that the movie is saved on the flash. Any suggestions? I
can't believe that there would be no way around this.

Is this the .mswmm project file or was the project
published (saved) in a movie format .wmv or .avi?

FWIW...the Vista .mswmm project files are not
compatible with WinXP Movie Maker 2.1.

John, I never used movie maker and my daughter is a rookie as well. How can
we tell what file type it is?

John,
We have windows MM version 5.1 on our xp computer. It looks like her files
are mswmm. Does the 5.1 make a difference - probably not since we are having
this problem.

5.1 is your Windows Version...look a little lower
and you will see Movie Maker 2.1.4026.0 which
is the latest version for Windows XP.

As I previously told you...the .mswmm project
files from Vista Movie Maker are not compatible
with Windows XP Movie Maker 2.1.

The .mswmm project files are only useful for
re-opening in Movie Maker and re-editing...you
must Publish your project in a movie format if you
plan to view it in Windows Media Player or share
it with anyone else.

If you Publish (save) the Vista project as described
in the articles I posted for you...then you will have a
"Movie" file that can be played on most any system
in Windows Media Player.
