There is no download.

You have 3 options:

1. Depending on the make/model of the machine, you should have a "Recovery
Partition" on the hard drive that has all you need. Check the
manufacturer's website for instructions on how to use it. Unless you had a
drive failure and had to replace it, this is what you should have done in
the first place.

2. If you replaced the drive or deleted the Recovery Partition, then your
can contact the manufacturer for a Restore DVD. It will contain Vista plus
all the drivers for your particular model, and softtware that was originally
on the machine. It may cost you a few bucks.

3. Buy a new retail full version for more than a few bucks. You can't
borrow one from a friend, the key on your machine is for an OEM version, it
won't work on a retail version or another manufacturer's OEM version.

With all due respect, you might should have thought about this before
formatting the drive.

Didn't your computer come with discs? If it didn't, maybe you're in
luck: maybe it had a restore partition and you only formatted the
system partition.

If that's the case, all may not be lost.

Get back.

You can't download it, unless the computer's manufacturer offers such a
service to registered purchasers. You'll need to contact the computer's
manufacturer to find out what sort of recovery mechanism they originally
provided (I can't understand why you wouldn't have done this *first,*
before formatting the drive.), and/or to see if you can obtain a copy of
its OEM installation DVD.

Legally, the OEM has met it's contractual obligation to Microsoft
by providing a means of returning the PC to its ex-factory state,
whether it's a Recovery CD or a Recovery Partition. They are not
legally obliged to provide a true installation CD as part of the sale.
Reputable, customer-service aware OEMs, do provide a full OEM
installation CD, that does permit custom installations and repairs.
However, many uncaring OEMs, such as eMachines, Compaq, HP, and Sony, in
an effort to save pennies and reduce their support costs by having to
hire support people that need only say "Boot from the Recovery CD to
return your PC to its original condition," provide only a CD bearing a
disk image of the hard drive as it left the factory.

Essentially, it boils down to "You get what you pay for."
