Vista Itunes Syncing Problem September 2007

Vista is preventing my Itunes library from syncing with my 5G ipod since the
last available update. There are many similar stories on the Apple site. Has
anyone else experienced similar issues? Apparently Apple will not do anything
about it as it is a MS Vista problem. Do Microsoft read these discussions as
I am not prepared to pay £46 to speak to a technical adviser for what is
obviously a widespread problem Vista problem.

Hi Jason--

Take 60 seconds to look in your registry where I show you below to make sure
you have no filter values. It can cause your problem.

What I think you actually mean is that when you plug in that Ipod to a USB
cord that plugs into your PC, your Ipod doesn't show up in Itunes or even
if it does, you can't sync. I'll bet also you couldn't manually drag tunes
you've ripped/downloaded to Itunes to the Ipod Icon, if you have the Ipod
icon showing up. You haven't been clear on that.

I've noticed an increased amount of these stories as well, and one way to
fix this situation is to look for filter values because the existence of
either an upper or lower filter value in the registry can absolutely cause
this problem.

1. Click Start, type regedit in the Start Search box, and then click regedit
in the Programs list.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type
your password, or click Continue.
2. Locate, and then click the following registry subkey:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Caution There can be many instances of the registry subkey that is mentioned
in step 2. You must make sure that you are in the appropriate registry
subkey before modifying the UpperFilters and the LowerFilters values. To
verify that you are in the appropriate registry subkey, make sure that the
Default data value is DVD/CD-ROM and the Class data value is CDROM.
3. In the right pane, right-click UpperFilters, and then click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the UpperFilters registry entry.
5. In the right pane, right-click LowerFilters, and then click Delete.
6. Click Yes to confirm the removal of the LowerFilters registry entry.
7. Exit Registry Editor, and then restart the computer.

Thanks Chad I will give a try. My ipod is showing up in Windows but any new
tunes that I want to update from my library will sync for about 20 to 30
seconds and then suddenly stop with only a few songs being copied over. I've
reset, restored etc but still to no avail. I have hooked up and old 4G ipod
with the same result. This all happened after I downloaded the last update
from Itunes. It seems that there are many other users with the same problem.
I hope that Microsoft come up with an answer soon.

I performed the registry edit menntioned and my CD-ROm was ok. However,
Itunes now erors stating that a registry error occured and need to re-install
itunes. After the re-install, the problem is bacl. Any other suggestions?
What about another CD user program causing a conflict?

Please help!!!

There is apparently enough of us who are having problems with iPod's and
Vista that we should see a lawyer and get a class action suit against
Microsoft and Apple since neither seems to be interested in doing anything to
solve the problem.

My iPod syncs and worked great with my old computer with XP but when I try
and attach it to my new computer with Vista it refuses to recognize the iPod.
I have loaded and removed iTunes about a dozen times, and reset the iPod
about the same number of times and it still won't work. It knows the iPod is
there because if I leave it plugged in, it tries to reboot from the iPod and
I have to unplug it to get the computer to boot up.
 
Where the #$%^&* is the "start search" option in Vista?? At least in XP I
could find the damn thing...
 
Well finally found the Regeditor and got it down to
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control but after that there is
no class or the numbers you listed...
