No Microsoft operating system, in my opinion, is ever going to be excellent although I think with XP Pro MS came the closest yet to something pretty good.

I've been getting used to Vista. It's flawed but there's more there I like than I don't like.

How could you not link to your Vista thread-blog Flops :D

https://www.pcreview.co.uk/forums/thread-3373774.php

It's a good read itsme if you are considering making the move to vista :)

It takes a few days to get used to, and I'd say if you are building a new PC it's worth getting - but if you are happy with your system and it does everything you want, then there's no point quite yet. I like it though :)

I am thinking about it but having no problem with XPYET:bow: I wanted to gain some first hand experience accomplished by users on this forum:nod:
will read that blog now;)

I am still an XP supporter, but I am just as fond of Vista now. I enjoy using it and have found it to be just as "forgiving" as XP when I've occasionally made a boo-boo :D

CP/M was a bugger ... now DOS, wow, that was the bees knees. :thumb:

Then I remember some newfangledwhatchyamacallit came along ... Windows for Workgroups. (I think I somehow missed the others?)

Hey! ... now that looked good.

OH, I need DOS as well as Windows. ah, I get it, double revenue.

OK, I already got DOS, Windows on top, for all them pretty icons & stuff, what the heck ... only 6 floppy disks.

Hey, built-in redundancies ... two lots of DOS, in two different folders, neat. ;)

Why does half my software not work, why have I got to open a DOS session, damn, I need more memory.

Way hay, things are looking up ... new kid about to arrive, Windows 95 ... bloody hell, 32bit operations. Err, what does that mean? flipping heck, must be good, its 25 floppies.

Ah, it don't work, I need new hardware, need new peripherals, need new drivers, wish I had 32Mb ram ...

DAMN THIS FECKIN WIN 95 I'M GOING BACK TO DOS
wallbash.gif

Hmmm, Windows 98 ... faster, more powerful for gaming, more feckin headaches. Repeat Win 95 fiasco ... Wish I had 64Mb ram.

Ah, quick-fix Win 98 SE ... ah-ha, that's better. :thumb:

DAMN THIS FECKIN WIN 98 I'M GOING BACK TO Win 95

Time for a new Century ... oh I say, Windows Millenium ... nice ring to it. :D

Repeat Win 3.2, Win 95, Win 98, same crap, more of it ... wish I had 128Mb Ram.

DAMN THIS FECKIN WIN ME I'M GOING BACK TO WIN 95
wallbash.gif

I had a look at a Mac ... damn, need a new mortgage, pretty though.

Oh, look out, here we go again ... Windows XP ... XP? what a stupid number, oh, there is a Win2000 already, ah, but this is for the Home user, OK, I'll bite ... customer's will be asking for it ... shame I can't just thump 'em in the mouth ... here we go again. Wish I had 256Mb ram ... oops, ****, need a damn sight more than that baby ... Jesus, a whole GIG or ram. tut tut tut ... wonder where me DOS disks are?

Feck me, this is bloody stupid, where are the drivers? why don't have me programs work, I need new peripherals, sh1t!!

Am happy with windows 95 , sorry i mean windows xp,lol.
But if your getting a new pc give vista try over xp.

A good post Mr Mucks, a good post, makes the point rather well.

What we have here is genuine advancement versus Bill Gates' desire to own the entire planet.

DOS 6 was good.

Win 3.1 was good (or Windows for Workgroups, little difference).

Win 95 was dire, never did work right.

Win 98SE was good as long as you didn't mind a fresh install every three months.

Win 2K was very good indeed - if you were office-bound and didn't want to play games.

Win ME should have been shot at birth, shameless cash-in that was notoriously unstable.

Win XP may yet be Microsoft's peak, it was actually very very good. The fact they didn't replace it for nigh on seven years must say something.

Vista? The Jury's still out on this one.

Ohhhh Muck's I remember the scenario and more..Can't believe we are all starting the wheel all over again..Bring back good old DOS I still got me 3 DOS 6.22 discs in the cupboard, and you know what they got me out of a sticky corner once in XP...I daren't explain I'd be here all night..But trust me it worked when nothing else would...

I got the Vista Business Upgrade when i bought my laptop (XP-Pro) last year & only cost £13.
Not sure if once i get all the drivers etc if to put it on the laptop, only time will tell.
Am using it within VMWare but only with 512MB RAM so very slow.
May up the RAM and see how it performs within a virtual setting first.
