Vista install over XP

Sir Timbit

Hi there,

I have a Vista capable PC but I don't have a DVD-ROM drive readily
available. I want to upgrade a test PC that currently has XP Pro to Vista
beta 2. I have the Vista ISO and the DVD available on a different PC, so I
should be able to map to it and install over XP (I think!) I don't care
about keeping the XP data--it can be all wiped out. It's a test PC.

I did this before and Vista setup created an "OldWin" folder that had
everything from XP in it. It's huge and I want to delete that folder, but
when I tried this last time, it hosed the bootup process. When I restarted
the PC I got a "Insert Boot disk" error... Shouldn't I be able to remove
that OldWin folder?

I think the time and effort you have already spent to on this seems much more
time consuming than buying a $20 DVD-Rom. If you try to make things harder
than they have to be then you will have problems in the long run. Just my 2
cents.
