Vista install fails during "Gather"

Dell Ispiron 8600 - passes all compatibility tests - but fails upgrade
install when "gather"eaches 67% - what's up? Any light will be very
appreciated!

Does it actually stall there or does it lockup?
If it just stalls, how long does it stall and does it actually start again?
How much time are you giving it to install?
