I downloaded the Vista x86 DVD iso from MSD and when trying to install it I
get the error mentioned above in the subject line.

I tried this a couple of times but the same problem occurs at 70% every time.

I am running a SATA hdd but Vista picked it up just fine. I killed the
existing partition, created a new one and formatted it during the
installation (But this happened very quickly - which makes me think it may
have done something wrong)

One post I did read on the error indicated that the Vista disk formatting
software is a bit dodgy and I should format it using another program. I will
reformat the disk using my XP CD and try installing it again.

Any other comments and/or suggestions would be much appreciated.

David.

Hi,

Some suggestions:

- Do a software memory check.
- Reburn the DVD at a slower speed. There have been many issues with bad
burns.
- If there are any IDE drives in the system, temporarily disconnect them.

The fast time is normal for quick format mode.

Make sure that your RAM is not overclocked, as well as your CPU. Run the
computer at the default specs for these two settings. Then try again. I have
seen where relaxing the RAM settings from, say, clock 2 to clock 2.5 allows
things to miraculously happen.

For what it's worth, I was receiving the same error with the DVD ISO. Turns
out it was an issue with my CD/DVD-ROM drive. I switched my BIOS to boot
from my Plextor DVD burner, and I was able to install successfully.
