To improve file searching, I have added some directories in Windows Vista
Business Index (Control Panel --> Indexing Options). However, I recently
noticed that these directories don't exist any more in the Included Locations
section. The only directories left are the default ones
(Offline Files // Users folder // Start Menu).
Thus, I have to rebuild my Index from scratch... :-(
Does anybody know how could this have happened?
I will be very glad to receive any help.
Thank you in advance...

Hi,

Did you perform System Restore after you changed those settings?
You might lose this kind of appl settings if you perform a restoration...

Which folders did you add to Indexing Options?

Thanks

Yes, I have indeed performed a restoration, but the system backup was made
AFTER building my index. I had added folders including pictures and music
from an external hard disk which is always connected in my computer. I can't
see why this could be a problem.
Thank you for your reply...

If this Vista search index encounters a problem where the search index files
have got corrupted it {very occasionally} has to reset the index and rebuild
from scratch. This can lead to the list of locations being reset back to the
defaults.

As an aside, I would suggest trying the Windows Search 4 Preview, which
updates the indexer in Vista with a newer version which should fix many
commonly reported reliability issues:
