I'm planning to buy an upgrade version of Vista Ultimate to do a clean
install on my desktop, is it possible to install it on my labtop also without
having to buy a new DVD?

2 machines = 2 licenses
You can use the same DVD, but you will need two licenses

No. You need a fully licenced copy for your desktop and a fully licenced
copy for your laptop. In other words you need to buy two copies of Windows
Vista.

It isn't the dvd that matters, it is the product keys. Like dom says, you
need two.

DVD doesn't really matter (think OEM's that don't offer reinstallation
media). It's the key that really matters. If you only need 2 licenses, and
you have ultimate, you might look into the MS Family Pack (allows you a
decent $$ break on installs on multiple systems).
