Vista: I Jus'Don't Get IT???

If you just want to get online, you don't need Vista. It's an easy to use,
more secure that previous editions, full featured OS. If you just want to
get online, buy a P3 500MHz with Windows 98. That's all you need. Or Ubuntu
Linux. Those will get you online and do what you need.

Come back if you want to do anything else, though. Especially gaming. I'm
not saying that Vista isn't a bit bloated, but it does serve it's many
purposes very well. Even in Beta stage it's a great OS! XP was just as bad
as Whistler in beta stage. But, I still liked it! :)

Well... I Guess(?) I'll Buy Vista, 'Cause It Is "The Latest & Greatest" But,
Vista Is Definitely "OVERKILL" OS For What I & The MAJORITY of Users USE
COMPUTERS FOR: E-Mail & Search (OnLine)!!!

Hehe, how do you imagine you're the "majority" of users? The majority these
days is probably us gamers actually. :P

I Read It, SumWhere???

It Was Actually, Microsofts', Own Research That, Indicated That, The Vast
Majority of Users Used Computers To Go OnLine To Check Their E-Mail & SEARCH!

Gaming, "Gamers" Weren't Mentioned!

;-)

You are interpreting most used as only used.

Maybe that's why they're coming out with "Vista Home Basic". I don't know
what exactly that version includes but it sounds like something someone you
are describing would want.

Then look on e-bay for a used Internet Appliance - strictly for browsing and
e-mail. Nothing else is supported.

Vista Home Basic? Just XP with TONNES more DRM, copy protection and MS
Spyware preinstalled.

You're right, but not as right as you think you are.

Not all users will be satisfied with a terminal at their desktop. If you
think back to the history of computing, the personal computer *started*
because the terminal client wasn't enough. There will always be a user base
who need nothing more than a machine without local storage (or with minimal,
like a usb key) and there will always be a user base who need a machine on
their desk that has horsepower enough to run large projects, be it a game, a
development environment, or even 'just' a word processor.

Your posts show that you are as narrow minded as those your rail against for
thinking desktops are the only way. I cut my teeth on a VT100 terminal. I
know the uses of a terminal based environment. I also play a bit of Sim
City 4 and, frankly, I know the bonuses of a high powered system sitting on
my desk.

And, I have to ask, did you buy a big supply of commas at Costco that are
nearing their expiration date? You seem to have no concept of proper
punctuation in the English language. I hope that English is a second
language for you. If it is your primary language, I fear it is too late for
the US education system.
