Please excuse my ignorance, This is my first pc, It is a HP M7780n media
center with Microsoft vista home premium software, there is a fax modem
program is the files, but I see nothing in the home premium about fax
operation, My printer is a Canon Mp600 all in one with scanner, copier,
printer,<no fax in the printer.

Do I need a fax program, and will the scanner on the canon be able to send
copied image to the pc?

I would only use a fax feature once in a blue moon, SO I do not even know
why I should even worry about it!

Best Regards, Dave

There is no fax program in Home Premium. If you want to fax you will have
to upgrade to Ultimate, buy a stand alone program or subscribe to one of the
internet fax services.

Dont forget the other alternative please if you have the memory
use Virtual PC and install XP, which has the fax service built in, or
Win98se and Winfax/etc
Most of us have these "old" OS's and software lying around :-P

Possibly a little extreme for a 'blue moon' fax.. ;)

Maybe, but for us who like to be legal...its a Hell of a lot cheaper than
upgrading to Business/Ultimate :-P

Snappy Fax costs US$29.00, works with Vista, and reports are very good..
cheaper than Vista Ultimate, takes up less space than XP running in VM and
is way better featured than MS Fax..

It won't work if your fax is in an all-in-one device on a USB port,
like mine....;-(
If the printer is Vista compatible, won't the drivers and software from the
printer manufacturer, assuming they've been updated for Vista work without
the necessity of a VM installation?

Won't work if you use Vonage or another VOIP service, either. Sadly...
