Do you have Microsoft Office or Viewers?
MS Excel uses an .xls extension and MS Word
uses the .doc extension.

you can't open the document after saving the attachment?
Assuming you have the appropriate Office programs installed,

i could it not open after saving in documents.
my installed programs are powerpoint, works and word pad.

If you can't open saved documents, then it's not a Windows Mail problem.
Since you don't have Word or Excel, I suggest you install the free viewers:
Word:
