Hello Guys and Gals

Just like most I just installed Vista Home Premium ( wish I had bought the
Ultimate)

I have a 160GB HD and I see the correct space in my BIOS but vista says it
is only 130. I do realize the incorrect ;abe;ing on hardrives and how this is
done but 30Gig...?

Thanks
Joe

Part of the difference is how the manufacturers spec the unformatted
drive and the rest is Vista reserves 15% for the System Restore files.

Yes, a 160GB HD as stated by the manufacturer will display as about 145GB in
the OS due to the manufacturer's use of 1GB - 10x09, but whatever amount of
space is allocated to system restore and shadow copies does not affect the
capacity of the drive as displayed in properties or disk management. It
shows up as how much is used.

To the OP where are you seeing this 130GB capacity?

There could also be a hidden System Restore partition on the disk.

i.e. A factory installed System Restore partition to enable restoring the
computer to the factory shipped condition, not a Windows System Restore.
