I downloaded a file and decided to delete it. Vista wouldn't let me.
I don't have permission. What gives? I can't delete some shareware I
downloaded and no longer want?

Any attempts at changing permissons etc are denied.

Properties/security/advanced shows "unable to display current owner".

I turn off UAC and reboot, it is an annoying, worthless piece of crap
anyway.

Same results as before........nada

I turn off file sharing and voila I can now delete, no questions
asked.

Isn't that cute? So file sharing is the toggle for deleting those
pesky files. Who would have thunk it?

This has happened four times in the last month with a variety of files
that I have downloaded. All basic vanilla non-system files. One was
a PDF, one a mpeg, the other two rars.

What genius at MS coded this?

The genius who could have told you that you weren't the current owner of
that network share. Oh wait, that wouldn't be you.

Yo genuis.......no share was every enabled for the file. I turned
file sharing off at the global/machine level.
