When I try to shut down or restart Vista it gets to the shutting down screen
and stays there, forever. I have to turn the computer off manually. Is there
any way to bypass the pretty shut down screen and see what is actually going
on?

There are ways to stop the hang. Sometimes these work.

Also go to Device Manager by typing devmgmt.msc in run box> expand USB root
hubs>right click>properties>power management tab and take ck marks out of
every box of every USB entry (repeat one by one).

Also for ref MSFT has a shutdown hang KB and I didn't link it because it
rarely helps. I find the above article works when the others including the
info from Jim Eschleman's excellent site don't.

Good luck,

not sure where this will post but got my Audigy Platinum Ex sound card
working download the drivers for xp not the vista one <- they MS stated they
were working on the fix on the next build but for me not gonna wait + not
sure who it was but she told me to check my email again and got the Vista
RC1 downloaded, installed, and working :-) (thanks whoever you are) and as
far as my opinion goes Vista RC1 works better on my computer than XP home
from some of the reported bugs here I have tried to repeat them and ? no
bugs yet so guess its a model make and year on the computer that might be
causing this ps my reliable puter is a Compaq Presario 5423us and even if it
has grey whiska's like me it keeps a chuggin good day and good testing

Hey,
I´ve tried this, but it doesn´t work. Even when I restart the marks are
checked again.
