Hi,
My computer (Vista 32 SP2) freezes and I turn it off manually and start
again and all is OK for a while. It seems to freeze at any time even when I
am not doing anything. This has been happening for 8-9 months but the
problem went away in winter so I seem to think this might be the fan. I
have done a clean boot and still it happens. I have uninstalled Vista and
reinstalled and still the same so it is not any programs that I might have.
As summer is not far away (Australia) I would like to fix this problem as it
has started to happen again. I have taken the unit to Acer but they seem to
think it's OK they said it was a memory conflict but that is not the case.
What else can I do?

Download CoreTemp from http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/
Note: This applet only works on Core 2 and Core i* CPUs.

Another excellent utility that will show CPU, hard drive, video card,
and motherboard temps, along with system voltages and fan speeds,
is HWMonitor from www.cpuid.com

The full range of supported CPUs is here:
http://www.alcpu.com/CoreTemp/supportlist.html

It doesn't work for Intel CPUs earlier than the Core 2, but does work
with some single core AMDs.

Does it happen more often when you're away from the computer?

Can you move your mouse pointer, even if you can't close or open apps?

If it`s a tower , open it up and see if there`s any dust inside :
sounds like overheating
