Hi Experts:

My Vista (Ultimate) periodically freezes for about 20 seconds in every 30
minutes or so, turning off the firewall and Windows Defender did not help.
Reinstalled twice now and it does not make difference. I did not have this
problem while running Vista RC2.

Anyone knows what might be the cause?

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried keeping Task Manager open? Set it on the Processes tab, and
click at the top to Sort by CPU usage, with it 'descending' (the process
using most CPU time at the top).

If it is some process taking all processor time, you can see which one it
is. After one of these freezes happens, you'll see a peak on the graph(s)
on the Performance tab as well.

You could also use Resource Monitor (opened at the bottom of the Performance
tab).
