Vista firewall

My firewall also turns off by itself. I scan for viruses everyday and it has
done this since day 1. Have also tried system restore as recommended by Acer
and I just bought this 12/28.

When you open the Security Center in the Control Panel what is the status of
Firewall protection?
 
At present it is on, but I have to turn in on everytime I boot up, it won't
stay on. I read some other posts re: this problem and everything they
advised, I checked and it should be o.k Am guessing I just need to
re-install my CA firewall or something similar.

I should have asked more specifically what the Security Center says. Does
it say "Windows Firewall reports that it is currently ON" (or words to that
effect), or does it say More then one firewall is ON? There may be another
firewall installed that is turning Off the Windows Firewall automatically.
 
No, Dave, I'm not running Onecare. I've seen a few other issues that are
about the same & it seems that there isn't a resolution, at least that I've
read here today.

Yes, it says windows firewall is on and protecting my system. I do know that you aren't supposed to run more than one firewall, but if there is another one, I would think it could only be the ones for the router and VOIP and those shouldn't matter. I uninstalled my CA firewall because I was having to much trouble loading pages and only turned on windows firewall after that.

Another possibility is the CA Firewall didn't uninstall properly. You could
try installing it again and then uninstalling to see if that straightens it
out (the vendor may provide a cleanup tool for removing leftover bits like
the Norton Removal Tool).

You could also try using another Vista compatible firewall, such as PC Tools
Firewall Plus (this and a number of others are free) so you have something
reliable if you can't get the Vista firewall to stay ON.

I hadn't thought about that; I do know about that with Norton, but have had
pretty good success with CA for a few years with XP, so that never crossed my
mind. Thanks for suggesting the others as well, I will definitely keep that
in mind. Thanks for the help.
