I received no help with this post under
"microsoft.public.windows.vista.file_management".

Running Vista Home Premium SP2.

How can I add ".wmv" to the list?

Create a file using Notepad, and save it with the extension you want to add.

Create a file using Notepad, and save it with the extension you want to
add. Double-click the file and in the Open With dialog, choose the
application from the list. Place a checkmark near "Always open...."
and click OK.

Your response ultimately led me to stumble in the right direction with
success. Thank you for that.

For the record, however, I got confused (it happens alot) trying to open the
Notepad-created file, because it showed two choices, one with a Notepad name
and one with something else -- I don't remember the details. I wasn't
comfortable with the choice, so I ended up deleting the Notepad-created
file, and opened an existing legitimate .wmv file. I don't remember seeing
an "always open" checkbox, but I must have done something right, because now
my .wmv files do invoke the Windows Media Player.

Thanks again.
