XP included FAX software, but Vista doesn't. Where can I find FAX
software for Vista?
Actually, two versions of Vista, Business and Ultimate, *do* come with fax
software. Versions that have "home" in the name don't have it.
If your system came with a modem, check the manufacturer's site for fax
software. They may have included it on another disk. If you've purchased a
modem separately, these very often include fax software.
Googling "fax software for Vista" should lead you to a number of options.
You need to try some versions yourself, for this reason:
How well fax software works is very heavily dependent on how well it
interacts *with a specific modem*, and as well, with specific versions or
firmware revisions of specific modems. Some work perfectly right away,
some are occasionally flaky, and some just will never work. I can tell you
that a lot of the development and QA resources involved in fax software
development is focused on compatibility with specific modems.
So, see what's out there, get demo versions and test them using some fax
systems you will send to and receive from.
When you find ones that don't work well, check for modem compatibility, and
if you see problems, move on till you find one that works with your modem.
Some modems just don't really work well, and you may find that replacing it
is a better option (not so easy on an laptop with an embedded modem), and
that will probably come with compatible software.
