I recently did some work and stuck a pile of image files on a disc using my XP desktop. Sent them off and customer has vista and can't even read of the disc.

This is were Vista cannot read any discs made with XP machines.
Is there solution here?

I have enabled XP discs to allow access by other computers but I did not expect such a conflict between two systems. THis is a disaster if you are thinking of upgrading from xp to vista. Does this mean all your xp discs cannot be read by vista?

Hi,

This is very strange because I am using Vista and it reads CDS fine there are burnt in XP.

It is not uncommon for windows to get scrambled by various copy protection schemes on disks, so a simple reinstall often solves problems.

Wiz

Just to add to what Wiz has said, I don't think it's Vista's fault either - I recently dug out some image files that I'd burnt to CDs a few years back using XP. Vista read them without any problems.

Same as Taffycat and wizkid. My Vista system reads old CDs burned on XP.

No probs here either.

What's the file extension on the saved images and how were they saved? That is - which program were they burnt from?

Many thanks for your messages.

I tested them on a laptop which uses XP home edition with no problem. At least the good news this is not a common problem and it is possible to achieve.

File extension .jpg

For those who can read Xp formatted and burnt discs with Vista do you have Vista service pack 1 installed

There are two methods of burning to discs Live or Standard format. Which is the safest to use.

Would a different software be the best option e.g. Nero 5.5. I burnt the same jpegs using ACD using a DVD -RW that plays in the customers DVD ok but not Vista.

Thanks

I'm not sure about error messages.
The DVD works on a dvd machine not a computer with a dvd rom

I once had an issue with jpgs on Vista.... I had to manually set them to open with a different program.

Could be an association issue I think.
