I installed the latest update from Windows Update yesterday and then turned
off my computer. When I went to turn it back on, Windows wouldn't load. Right
after POST I would get a black screen with a "_" character, looking like it
was waiting for something to happen. Just to make sure the computer wasn't
taking an exceptionally long time to load, I left it overnight to see if it
would get into Windows, which it didn't. Does anybody have any suggestions on
how to fix this issue, ideally without the use of the install DVD (I'm not at
home and will not be able to get it for a few days).

Thank you

i got that when i installed the rc1 nvidia gforce video driver onto pre-rc1
vista. obviously (or maybe not with a beta) it's now fine with the proper
rc1 build. can you boot into safe mode and kill the video drivers?

Yeah, attempting to get into safe mode is your best bet. (Mash the F8 key
before you normally see the _ character)
