Hi,
I have a Compaq NC2400 lapttop with 2GB RAM running Vista (no SP loaded,
our corporate IT is still "testing" it).
Since I got this PC I have suffered a problem where the PC freezes in a
strange way. If I am using the mouse it stops moving (very poor response for
2 - 3 seconds, then it runs into a circle and then it no longer moves). The
screen also freezes (even the clock stops).
However the harddisk continues to flicker as normal for a while (a minute
of so) and then quiets down. I have also discovered that a directory that I
shared on the PC remains accessible to other PCs over the network.
The only option for me is to hold the power key and force the PC off. Then
I can start the PC again.
I have checked the Event log and nothing strange appears, just the forced
power off.
I have never had any problem when I am working from home (i.e. when
removed from the docking station).
I have swapped the docking station and the motherboard of the laptop. I
have reinstalled everything (my IT does this from a standard image) and the
problem reoccured right afterwards.
I have the same screen, power adaptor, cables and mouse.

Any suggestions? My IT have no idea how to gauge the status of my PC when
the keyboard is not available. I was hoping maybe there is SW that could take
a snap shot every 5 minutes or somehow could help ID what state the PC is
in???

It's driving me nuts. I could change PC model I guess but would like to have
other ideas.

Thanks,
Montreal.

Since this is a Enterprise (Volume License ) version of Windows you should be
talking to the IT person at your company or place of work about this version.

If you desire not to do this then have all your info ready on the Volume License and
call Microsoft.

Enterprise versions have free support and the numbers for it are listed below in the
link I supplied. Check out North America at the bottom of the list. It is a free
call from MTL.
