Just saw a laptop advertised on Craigslist stating..."looks like vista"
emailed them and he says its XP but look like the Vista GUI, but wont go
further.
Googled it and found some hits, but curious if there is a "best" one ..
Thanks

With XP, you can install Stardock's Object Desktop, and make it look like
just about anything, from Vista to Mac OS, and even X-Windows (Linux).
Of course, the true functionality of the system will still be XP.

I used the free Vista Transformation Pack from a PC World article prior to
buying Vista (just to see if I liked the interface).

http://www.pcworld.com/downloads/file/fid,64389-order,1-page,1/description.html

It was written by a guy called Mr. Windows X in Thailand or some place or
other. It wasn't bad if you want a taste of Vista without shelling out the
bucks. Make sure to read all the user reviews as the installation can be a
bit "hairy". Back up your system first of course. I did not lose any data
but had to install/uninstall a few times to see what the install options
did. In the end I just installed it with everything enabled.

I ended up using the sidebar and gadgets so much it convinced me to upgrade
right away.

HTH,

Art
P.S. I don't necessarily endorse this thing or even know who the programmer
is, it just helped me decide.
