For Yahoo mail accounts to work with windows mail (or any other email
client), you have to have a paid account which has POP server access enabled.

About the STM server, i think you meant SMTP server. If so, then it is an
acronym for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol. It's the protocol that email
clients follow to send emails. For technical specification, visit http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc821.html
Most free accounts of the type you mentioned are for web mail only.
Windows Mail does not do web mail.
So unless you mean premium accounts with POP3/SMTP access,
you can't use Windows Mail.
I tried to set up a POP3 msn account & when I type in the Email address like
(e-mail address removed) I get msg. saying that Windows mail does not do web based
accounts even though this is a POP3 & I use it on WXP Outlook Express. Any
suggestions? Thanks, Bob B.
You need to fool the Add New Account wizard by giving it a
dummy email address, like (e-mail address removed). After the account
is set up, go back into the properties and correct the email address.
Thanks, I have MSN Premium which I pay for & I have pop3 msn on my WXP PC.
BTW, I just opened Outlook on this new Vista Laptop & was able to add a
(e-mail address removed) Email to that. But not to Windows Mail. Kind of 1/2 way
there--i.e., I can open my MSN POP3 in Outlook & read that mail. On Windows
Mail I have (e-mail address removed). Bob
Did set up xxx@dummy & then changed it afterwards to a (e-mail address removed) & filled
in all the info exactly as on my WXP PC. Looked fine but now when I try to
use it a window pops up asking for my user name & password & when I enter
them the same window keeps on poping up asking for the same thing. Like I
said I do subscribe to MSN Premium.Bob
Did just that several times & still that box opens & opens requesting user
name & password again & again. & I do put into it what I have in the add
email account thing, Bob
Uninstall your antivirus program.
Delete the email account. Close WinMail, reopen, and recreate
the email account. If that doesn't fix it, I'm out of suggestions.
