I'VE BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS WITH ITEMS BEING DELETED FROM MY INBOX WHEN I'M
EITHER CLOSING MY E-MAIL OR GOING TO DELETED ITEMS. THEY ARE TOTALLY
DELETED. THEY ARE NOT SENT TO MY DELETED ITEMS. I HAVE LOOKED IN THE
OPTIONS, BUT HAVEN'T FOUND ANYTHING THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. CAN SOMEONE
PLEASE HELP?

THANKS

First help us by not shouting (all caps)....please. You also might try the
Mail newsgroups - the one you posted to is for general Vista problems, not
specifically Windows Mail/Windows Live Mail.

That said, I did a Google and came up with this (just the first result of
the list).

Try changing the options

Tools (menu) > Options > Advanced (Tab) > Maintenance (button).

Then check/change the options:

"Empty items from Deleted folder on Exit".

and/or

"Purge deleted messages when leaving IMAP folders" (I think this applies
with "IMAP" mail servers like AOL).

This may not explain why things are "auto-deleting" but it may prevent them
being deleted on exit.

Just to clarify -- are you using Vista Windows Mail or Windows Live Mail,
or some other program?

Have you tried View-Current View-All Messages?

So you think that changing the View would bring back the deleted messages?
the OP did say that the messages are gone. Oops.

Franchiz,

They may be deleted after closing because of a setting in 'Tools > Options >
Advanced > Maintenance'.
Uncheck 'Empty messages from the 'Deleted Items' folder on exit'.
