vista e-mail

Help! I cant send out e-mail,I just got a new laptop(vista) and want to set
up e-mail
the laptop was a gift so I could Go online anywhere there is wi-fi and not
have to pay a monthly fee. So what do I put down for my host?I put down yahoo
and It says error host cannot be found.

Windows Mail basically works only with POP/SMTP mail servers.
(We don't want to get into IMAP, for now.)
US-based free Yahoo accounts do not have POP/SMTP access.
If you don't have an existing email address, you can get a free one
from Gmail: http://gmail.com. Gmail accounts are webmail by default,
but can easily be configured for POP/SMTP access.

Hotmail also gives out free email addresses, but they are more limited.
Those are webmail only, except that if you install the Windows Live Mail
program, it will access both Hotmail accounts and POP/SMTP accounts.
