This might seem trivial but it's anoying. I have a Dell D620 latop. I use
dual monitors, my laptop screen and an external monitor. Everything works
fine exept this... I have my external monitor on the left side. I can go into
the display settings and tell Vista my second monitor is on the left.
However, if I leave my machine unattended for a few minutes, it switches the
extra monitor back over to the right side. I have the NVIDIA Wuadro NVS 110M
video card.

Any ideas?

can you tell us you you tell vista this? You mean you drag the second
monitor with the mouse like you did on xp?

NVIDIA have had a few driver problems, maybe this is one of them, maybe not.

Have you disabled the screen saver completely and also any power settings
that might change with a similar timing period?

I honestly CAN believe that the the machine is waiting until you are not
looking to do this - strange things happen at times - but it seems like lack
of activity causes it and I'm thinking something related to screen saver
timing (Even maybe if SS is not actually in use) combined with a glitch in
NVIDIA drivers.

I had the same problem with my Dell Laptop. It has NVIDIA drivers as well.
I'm not convinced it's a driver problem. Through troubleshooting I found
that the Windows Event Log service was causing the problem. It seemed to
flip the settings at ever restart or wake-up. Here's the fix I'm trying.

Right click the Computer Icon, select Manage, open Services and
Applications, open the Services snap in, find "Windows Event Log", right
click "Windows Event Log", select Properties, in the dialog select Disable.
Then restart.
