I'm at a standstill if I should buy another Microsoft product or not. Now
that Microsoft is limiting Transfer features in Vista. What about all the PC
gurus and Gamers out there. Did Microsoft forget about us?. So what Microsoft
is telling me that I have to buy a new copy of Windows Vista everytime I
change out my hardware or switch my motherboard out? I'am constantly
changing our hardware and reformatting my two machine. Does this mean when
vista comes along I won't be able to do this because of Microsofts Greed and
lack to care about others besides themselfs?

I've not had even the slightest problems with XP...
so I'm sticking with it...

I do not plan to even look at Visa until all the bugs are out of it...

Gosh! A tough one!

I'd guess that an organisation with a tradition of meritocracy really
does what it thinks is the best.

I personally am not going to worry about it. I had no problems with XP in that regard, and I doubt
I'll have it with Vista.

Same here - I'll delegate worries of the OS to the copyright holders and
have fun with what it can do

Is this for "REAL" . I have not read anything about it , where did you read
this?

if this is going to be the case then I wont be upgrading to Vista either.
You know how many times I've reinstalled XP for one reason or another.

In a perfect world where PCs don't brake down or crash I could see this
being ok,But we live in the real world ..... A world where customers can't
afford to buy an OS every time they crash or want to upgrade hardware.

I think once the word gets out MS will be facing a large scale back lash.
They'll loose money not make it.

Shame on you MS if what I read is true.

There's been tons of posts over the last week about this issue, and lots of
blogs and forum threads. You need to surf more! :)

Also, understand that the issue is *transfer* of the OS to another hardware
platform, not reinstallations.

That is what they are talking about. Microsoft is using it's monopoly power
to determine the definition of transfer.

As is so typical, there's more hype and false charges against Microsoft on
the NET than there is common sense and reason. For those who are genuinely
interested in FACTS, Paul Thurrott has written a documented and
informative article on this subject here:

Thank you for the link. I had already decided to wait until the lawsuits
were over before buying Vista. I'll be first in line again.

... which is full of misinformation. See

The new Vista retail license is VERY different from the XP retail
license, which has always been understood to allow unlimited transfers.
This is why it was much more expensive than the OEM license. But the new
Vista retail license is expensive also.

Common sense? Reason? Hell, let's not use those. Innuendo, rumor, and
outright lies are much more popular these days, doncha know.
