It takes a long time for Vista to load and when it gets to the stage were the
MS bar is shown on screen, thus loading Vista, to hangs or stops. At this
point it does does not continue. Any suggestions as to why 1.) it hangs 2.)
it takes over a minute to load?

Have you updated any drivers recently (check installed updates)? Look in
Device Manager to see if any hardware devices have problems. If either
applies, go back to a restore point before the slow boot problem started and
see if it's resolved.

In general, if your are offered driver updated through WU for devices that
are working properly, DON'T accept the updates! (My opinion, based on
negative experiences).

Apparently one of your programs or services that start automatically on a
normal system boot is hanging the system.
Can you do an F8 safe mode boot? If yes then you will have to run
config.sys to eliminate the offending process. You might be able to find
out which it is from the event logs from the safe mode boot.
