VISTA DISPLAY ISSUES.

Machine: Sony Viao Sz 58gn
2gb memory
100gb hdd
Vista Business X86
so updating screen drivers is a issue.for that matter getting any new
drivers is a issue.


I need the following to work a user uses vista on the laptop and the lcd on
the laptop is his primary display. 1)

Now he connects a external screen and reboots or uses mobility centre to
connect it as display 2).

However he wants it to show up and display as the left hand screen in the
format 2) 1) with 1) remaining the primary display and the task bar not
changing screens also with the mouse moving to the left hand screen by moving
left.

This never works. if he connect external screen VISTA decides the screens
should be connected 1)2) and you have to move right to get to the left hand
screen.

you have to move the screen in display setup to get this right but then
vista will screw up and make the left hand external display the primary etc.

Is there no way to get vista to remember that the external display should be
2) and not primary and also to make it the left hand screen in the desktop
while not becoming the primary screen and taking the taskbar and start menu.

Any and all help appreciated this is driving me nuts.
 
Please note telling me to update the drivers is not a helpfull response;

I am asking if there is any way to fix this from vista's side as the newest
gcard drivers from sony is installed.

Or is this a bug in vista still after 2 years of it being on the market?

If the secondary monitor is not permanently connected then it would be SOP
to have to switch the displays' relative positions in Display settings every
time the monitor is connected. I've been using the 2)1) arrangement for
years and it doesn't flip back to default unless I do a driver
update/reinstall. Driver corruption has occasionally flipped the primary
display over onto monitor number 2.

Rather than a bug in Vista, more likely the problem would be caused by a bug
in the display driver or a driver installation issue as was hinted by the
previous reply. As likely is that the order of priority is determined by the
video hardware/BIOS. It also isn't uncommon for systems with dual video
connections to be set up to use either one or the other monitor connection
but not both at the same time. In that case the external monitor connection
would naturally be set up to default to Primary status. The manufacturer
could also assume that the most likely use of the external connection is to
replace the built in display, so defaulting that connection to primary
status when a monitor is detected makes some sense too.

however theis issue occurs with restarts too when external screen is
connected and stays connected.

IS there no way Vista can over write or be forced to use this setting once a
external monitor is detected again or is this all driver related.
 
The dual monitor functions are a result of your video card so yes - it is a
card/driver problem.

Search around and find who has a system working as YOU would like (google),
and get the same video card and use the same driver version.
 
I didnt tell you to update the drivers I told you were to get them from, and
since you indicated you could'nt get drivers the post was the correct
answer.

Any way as per your last post, its a driver setting
 
Nothing in Vista other than the monitor check boxes in Display settings.
Extra settings provided by video drivers vary with brand. Have you tried
Sony's tech support? There are some monitor detection settings you can
change, like here:
