Vista Discussion Groups Can't ask questions

My PC runs XP and I can enter a question (such as this one) in the Discussion
Groups without a problem. However my laptop runs Vista, and while I can sign
into the discussion groups ok and read all the replies, every time I click
on "New" and then "Question" I just get a yellow star with a red exclamation
mark in it.

I run Windows Live OnCare. Could anything there be causing a problem? I have
tried turning off the Pop-up Blocker, but that didn't help.

Can anyone provide me with a solution?

Do yourself a BIG favour and ditch the horrible web interface. Use a news
reader instead.

Setting up Outlook Express/Windows Mail to access Microsoft newsgroups

Accessing the MS newsgroups in Outlook Express/Windows Mail Newsreader

But I LIKE Vista! Hated it at first, but now it's working well. And I never
seem to be able to find what I want in News Groups, but OK, I'll try again.

Incidentally, I tried (in XP which I'm using at the moment) to open the link
in the automated email to access this reply, and although IE opens, it won't
access the page. This has been happening recently. Now that's in XP!

Maybe it won't happen if I access through News Groups??

What's the OS got to do with using a NEWSREADER? Idiot.

I totally agree with you, ditching Vista won't hurt anyone except Vista
Bois. Its bloated, very slow and designed for stupid people in mind. If any
one talks about any problem, people here will tell you need 2GB to have Vista
working properly, then why did they install Vista with 1GB RAM in the first
place.

An amazingly prompt reply. Many thanks to you and Gordon. I'll try the
link. I still need to solve my original problem though!

But I LIKE Vista!

So do I. But we aren't allowed to say so, because there's a hardcore of
weirdos in these parts who need to rant endlessly about how awful it is.

Saying you like Vista is seemingly worse than admitting you're a racist, or
you like to torture animals.

Still, it's their loss, isn't it? I use both XP (laptop) and Vista
(desktop), and prefer Vista in most respects. How anyone could actually
like the patronising Fisher Price user interface of XP is beyond me.
Perhaps its advocates are in the "Fisher Price" mental age range?

Better yet > Go to Taco Bell, clock in and start cleaning toilets. Remember
to be on time to your job because in 3-5 years, you just might get a
promotion if you study real hard. That counter looks pretty good to you
doesn't it?

This is a 'known bug' for the web interface and the Vista.General newsgroup
(with the web interface Only). The "Communities" groups all use the
"Passport" sign in feature, and something in the Vista.General group has
been altered. I assume it's due to all the trolling going on here, but only
MS would know for sure. (The web interface is very anonymous, unlike
newsreader use). I have a working feedback issue filed with them, but have
so far gotten no more than a 'we are working on it' reply set. Certainly we
have seen a decrease in ugly postings (that are allowed to be visible on the
web interface; they show up as blank and from 'unknown'). It's sad to see
people destroy the very thing they are so passionate about.

Use the "Ratings" feature. It helps the new users.

It looks as if the majority of the screening involves dumping any
posts that include obscenities in either the body or the subject line.
Posts from servers outside of the MS servers are being cut, and no
such post can be made from within.

That screening is most evident when one accesses the MS groups via
both the MS news servers and another server. Retrieving new posts via
the MS servers can result in one having a MUCH smaller killfile - if
any killfile at all - because the vast majority of crap from the
trolls has been screened out.
