Vista contrast adjustment?

Since switching to Vista I've had a very annoying problem. Often I can't
read words on a web site unless they are printed in black due to a very bad
lack of contrast in Vista. Sometimes if there is a box to input a password
I cannot see the box as the outline around it is not visible due to this
contrast problem. Numerous people have told me this is a known Vista
problem (I had no problems at the same sites with XP). There must be an
adjustment for this somewhere. Can someone please help.

Have you installed the latest available drivers for your video adapter?

Since any computer monitor is basically a TV minus a tuner your first
step should always be to calibrate your monitor using it's controls to
set proper white and black points. There are many web sites that give
more detailed specifics. If you want to get fancy there are several
gadgets that attach to the screen and allow adjustments that way.

If you want to do it from Windows alone and you already have the
latest drivers for your video card then you might be happier ditching
Vista specific color themes and pick one of the higher contrast or
classic settings. Right click anywhere there's a blank space on your
desktop, Personalize, Windows Colors and appearances. Click on classic
appearances at the bottom proceed from there.

Or...

Go to Control Panel, Ease of Access Center, make the computer easier
to use, now see if the high contrast option is enabled to implement
left Shift key + Left Alt key + Print Screen... a trick few know
about.

Hey capin' crunch...where is the "notification" you're said I'd be
receiving, huh?

Sorry to hear you apparently have bad hardware. Vista's
font displays are the best ever!

Vista has the worse fonts on any OS I have every seen...

not only that, there are errors and mish matches of fonts throughout the
interface

Can you say bad design? Well I can!

Well numerous people are talking bollocks, then. It is true that Vista has
introduced a new 'highlight' for UI components, and numerous people
(including me) find it has insufficient contrast on certain displays
(notably my laptop). But this has nothing to do with reading words on
websites. Sounds more like a display driver problem to me, or something is
set up wrong with your monitor.

Is it a new computer, or have you installed Vista on an XP machine?

Odd, seems many have found there way to this newsgroup and can only
blindly sing praises of Microsoft rather than being objective, honest
or even willing to learn the truth how screwed-up Vista can be in some
situations.

Why do you suppose that is?

a. This newsgroup because of a few hot-heads is unable to function as
a normal group where people come to seek help.

b. This newsgroup is infested with Microsoft fanboys and apologists.

c. Way too many wannabe types post here that really know nothing and
are really here to defend Microsoft and expect this place to
function as a fan club.

d. All of the above.

My hubby Ringmaster can't "sing", but he certainly knows how to "whine".
Sometimes he whines louder than the neighborhood cat that's always in heat!

It is an HP laptop which periodically updates itself, I assume this is part
of the update but I will try manually to be sure.

Thanks... Bob

Oh, just another in the long line of delusions you're famous for
suffering from, huh?
Figures.
what a fool you are frank!

I'm the not the idiot moron POS loser fool who can't get his one little
install of Vista to run properly and is sending delusional non-existent
'notifications".
That would be you, you stupid moron loser fool.

Not according to tens of people in here that keep complaining about
vista fonts and colors.. lol

There have been a total of 3 complaints over the last 2 yrs about Vista
fonts.
One was from you!
My hardware costs more than your car.

You're using the 10yr old desk top of your moms at home and share a 3yr
old desk top at the help desk where you work.
Oh, that girl in the next cubicle has a brand new desk top cause she's
much smarter and prettier than you!...LOL!

So you have a $28,000 computer? Wow!
And my $369 computer runs Vista flawlessly! Wow!

zuoer said:
So your car costs 28 grand? you are lucky the onboard electronics don't
run vista, or else you would crash.

You fell off that tricycle and smashed your head I bet.
For playing solitaire and trolling the MVP way no doubt!

That is all you seem to be doing, you village idiot.
