Hi folks,
Can anyone give me any pointers on how to make a back up CD for Vista.
I have been searching for a while and can find ways of making disc image images and back ups of all descriptions but i cannot seem to find out how to extract just "Vista" onto a disc for back up purposes.
I dont want any of my files and folders or photo's or anything else. Just Vista and its drivers, etc.
The web is full of copying and back up app's but nothing that suits me so far....
Any suggestions for me ??:)

Thanks in advance.

Why not just use your vista disc, then back up you docs and progs ready for a reinstall, best and easiest way tbh.

You could reinstall a clean copy of vista with drivers etc and make an image of that for reinstall. Kinda like the restore part you get on laptops.

You can stream Vista with SP2 and make a new Vista install CD (there's free software available out there to do this) but I'm fairly sure the facility doesn't exist to make an install CD complete with drivers.

Even if you could, if you changed any hardware the CD would become useless.

And of course, there's backup software such as Acronis True Image but I believe even a spartan install of Vista takes up more than 8Gb, which is the biggest disk you can get at current time as far as I know.

Thanks folks....my laptop didn't come with an install disc. Last night i got a bit of a scare when i picked up some "infected files". It wiped my restore points away and i reckon i was lucky, this time. It took control over most functions and i couldn't even shut it down. Anyway i posted the Mbam scan results in another post yesterday.

Anyhoo....it's sorted now. Thanks for your responses. Probably time for windows 7 anyway.
Thanks again.

Hmm. You didn't say it was a laptop and you also didn't mention you don't have a normal full version of Vista.

So, basically, my post was useless :)

Just why don't laptops come with a clean & wholsesome (as clean & wholsesome as Microsoft can get anyway) windows OS disk?

To my mind they're taking the ****.

Those install disks rarely work when there's a problem from what I can work out.

Somebody, probably Microsoft, is making a lot of money out of people's misery here.

This thread also reinforces my general dislike of laptops. Glorified calculators, really.

Sorry if i misled you there Flopp's. Yeah, Microsoft is probably saving a bundle on discs. Cheapskates!!
As for your glorified calculators statement....Hmmm. I think mine is great and it can do almost anything a desktop can.
Can't see you lugging your desktop up to the bedroom or around to your mates when need arises.LOL.
Apart from the install disc, tell me summat the laptop can't do that desktop can ??:)

No need, I have a 'puter in the bedroom too :)

And all me mates have computers if I need to use one while I'm there.

And I wouldn't even consider a laptop for a LAN Party.

Play Crysis at a decent resolution and frame rate :p

Ok, I've been thinking about this.

I'm not really anti-laptop, laptops are fine and are a good thing, they certainly have a place and a use in this world.

What niggles the hell outta me though is why don't all laptop manufacturers supply a full operating system with their product? It's madness, you can't really rely on any OS never crashing. Apart from software issues and crashing, the whole thing is reliant on a mechanical device (hard disk) which makes it far from foolproof.

Yep, really irritates me.

The laptop purchaser will get a code number, the cost of a CD or DVD is peanuts so why the hell don't they supply a full OS?

Gaaaaaaaaaah annoys the bejayzuz ouuta me

Come to think of it though, quite a few desktop PC suppliers, Dell for one, do the same thing, recovery disk only.

PC purchasers need educating, they really do.

Anyhow, glad you're over your crisis Cap'n, maybe if you stopped forever searching for freebies that don't do anything useful constantly you'd not suffer from bugs ;)

And off topic, how far you into Wolfenstein? I've just finished 'Castle' and am now into 'Downtown 2' and am thoroughly enjoying this game :)

I finished it over the crimbo....i wanted to clean house with my XBox 360 before i started into the PS3 my gf bought me for a pressie. It gets really hard at the end(Wolfie)....well it did for me.
I read a good article today on my Vista laptop (just keeping on topic, lol) about a new games room set up for online users who play games ont PC and/or XBox. I'll search for the link for ya.
I have, since new years day, finished Drakes fortune 1 and am halfway thru DF2. Then its on to MW2 and then Resistance fall of man 1.
Regarding my constant downloading freebies, installing them and then uninstalling as quick....well, thats slowing down as i turn into a mature pc user i suppose. Imagine me - mature, lol.
My XBox hasn't been used since Wolfie, which incidentally i loaned to me next door neighbour who's 14. He finished it in less than two day's and gave it back. He said he did it on "Uber". I was gobsmacked
I didn't think it was that easy.

Aha. I hadn't actually played Wolfie for some time and had reached the Captain Jetta Stage.

Then I lost my Win 7 (see other threads, lol) and all saved games.

So since re-installation I've played from start again and actually become quite immeresed in the game.

So considering relatively short time spent I think I've done ok.

As for your 14 year old nieghbour, he's either a liar (I think so) or hyper.

I figure he's a bullsh******g little gobsh**e who wants to wind you up, lol

There again, he could be another fAtality in the making - who knows?

And mature?

Hmm, been here awhile now.

I figure if ur male ur a kid til ur 40.

After that ur mature.

Well, after 40 horrible thoughts of being sensible attack you and suddenly you realise why ur subscribed to your GP.

Scary
