Vista clean install from XP-harddrive question

I've clean installed Vista upgrade on a partitioned drive. XP still resides
in the FAT32 partition, but I'd like to reformat that partition & switch it
to NTFS as there's nothing on that partition I wish/need to keep. Does Vista
"link to" anything from my previous XP install, or am I safe to remove it?
(I still have the XP discs should I have something catastrophic happen to my
system & need to reinstall everything)

By the Vista license agreement you cannot have Vista upgrade and the
qualifying OS installed at the same time, so you do need to remove XP.
There is no link, per se. Just delete the XP files. Just be aware of where
Vista has it's boot files.

In your case, you have the option and no obstacles, I would really recommend
a "clean install".
