of installation. So far I have installed every flavor of Vista I have been
able to download. All have installed as "Ultimate". Is there a way to
dictate the install performance level? I want to see what "Basic" will do as
well as other levels.
TIA.

Don't enter the product key at installation time. You will then be prompted
for the version to install. You can't activate the product key later - it
is only for the Ultimate version. You can use the version you installed,
unactivated, for 14 days before it quits. You'll need to reinstall then.

Domey,

All Vista editions can be installed from a single media. A product key you
use during setup is what determines edition that will be installed. To test
Vista Home Basic you will need obtain Vista Home Basic product key and use
it with any of your Vista installation media.

The version that gets installed will depend upon the product key number you
use. All versions are available on the DVD media, you just need the right
product key for the relevant version you wish to install.

what about if ultimate ver. is already activated? Vista does offer "change
product key" option...
it's just i guess we'd need some keys other than ultimate ones...and i
wonder if vista would stay activated in case of change key (downgrade)...?

Think of MS as a drug pusher trying to get us hooked on "Ultimate" :^)

In my case, Home versions do not work for me.
I have been using XP pro and *want*the extra security control along
with RDC tightly integrated (Tight VNC works, but is either
mis-configured by myself or lacks the "Locked by remote user" screen
on Host. Mouse wars can be fun <g>)
When I help friends with "XP Home", I continually mumble," Oh, you
can't do that with XP Home". Looks like they did more of that with
"Vista Ultimate".

hm...i must again find and see the differences in versions...

AFAIK, a 32 bit Vista CD has all the Vista versions but only in 32 bit.
The same goes for 64 bit.

Albert, the 32bit and 64bit versions are not on the same DVD, simply because
they wouldn't fit on one DVD; 32 bit is a round 2.5GB whereas 64 bit is
around 3.2GB. They are separate.
