VISTA CDs

One of the files is an image too large for a cd. Nevertheless, MS is still
looking at the possibility of a cd set. It would be five or six.

CD/DVD drives are inexpensive and going forward you will run into software
distributions on dvd more and more so it may be time to move up.

There have been some previous releases of Vista on CDs (sets of CDs) but there
haven't been any lately and it will likely only be on DVDs as nearly all systems
that are capable of running the OS should have at least a CD/DVD combo drive.

I for one could use the RC1 files split into CD-ready burnables. I only have
a CD-RW/DVD drive on the computer that I am going to download RC1 on. Any
ideas?

I found it easier to just buy a DVD-ROM for about $30-40 and add it to the
box.
You are going to need it as time goes on anyway. If you have a decent Video
card the graphics for watching DVDs on media player make it work the few
dollars it cost to install one.

Extract the ISO image to a folder of your choice and run the setup.exe from
there?

Well, that is easy if it is on a desktop, but this is on my laptop. I guess
that I can always get an external writer. Just don't think I will use it
that much besides situations like this. (I have downloaded 2 ISO files in
the past year...one for CD and this one for DVD.)

external burner. Just don't think I would use it that much...(I have only

I just downloaded vista and when I open the rar file there's only a readme
file that sais : "This disc contains a "UDF" file system and requires an
operating system
that supports the ISO-13346 "UDF" file system specification."

I made check the rar file size and it sais 2.3G.

I don't have a dvd burner but I am getting one soon.

I would like to know what is UDF and why can I only see one file when I open
the rar?

Thanks.

Hi,

You don't open the file, you burn the image to a DVD or use something like
Daemon Tools to emulate the disk. Also, it should be a .iso file, not a .rar
file. This happens when winrar is installed and usurping the .iso file
association.

Thanks a lot.

I just bough a dvd drive and I installed nero.

How do I burn a image cd (iso cd)?

Use the disk copying feature, specifying the .iso file as the source
(instead of an actual CD or DVD).

Double click the ISO file. Nero should launch (and know what to do).
Hint: You will need a blank DVD :)

Launch the Nero Burning ROM app.
Click on 'File'
Click on 'Open'
Navigate to where the .ISO file is and select the file.
Burn it to the appropriate media.
