Problem may very well exist between keyboard and chair, but here goes.
I'm an absolute beginner in regards to Vista, acquired it with my
recent laptop purchase.
Just one of my problems is when copying from the laptop to the
harddrive after awhile/midcopy, it just stops. Machine actually froze
once. Mostly though the copy just stops & furthermore Vista seems to
no longer see the hard drive?
Nothing wrong with the usb harddrive. It works perfectly on my XP
desktop.

Tia .........

Don't assume that devices that work fine with XP do so with Vista. Most do
but usb devices have turned out to be a PITA with Vista. I have run into
hard drive enclosures that never have worked right with Vista, to the point
where Windows Explorer would stop working or the computer would not boot
with the device attached. The problem would not be the hard drive but the
firmware in the enclosure. My experience is that there has been nothing for
it but to ensure I am using an enclosure certified for Vista.

Well done Colin .... That hadn't occurred to me. However, I've now
hooked up an old 3.5" external drive, and, copying the same set of
large files to it, it works perfectly. So the issue is indeed most
likely a compatability with the 2.5" external drive. Bummer......
'cause its one of those little enclosures that doubles an a multimedia
player.

Thanks again !
