Vista Business and Movie Maker

Can anyone help me unravel this puzzle please?

I have just upgraded to Vista Business to discover - to my horror- no Movie
Maker ! I upgraded XP Pro and have highly compatible hardware (quad board, 2
Gig, NVidia card etc).

However I do have WMM icon but get "General access denied" error when I
click it.

I tried downloading WMM 2.6 from Microsoft and whilst it installs OK, I get
same "General access denied" error. This discounts vid-card issues for me.

Searching on "General access denied" gets me nowhere as it ends up with lots
of posts asking similar question to mine.

So...... is there an MVP or someone of an inquisitive and successful nature
that has any ideas.......?

..... or does this remain on Mr. Softy's list of things to do another day?

Thanks

I like Movie Maker puzzles.... any successes are purely accidental

What happens if you plug an external mic into the computer, type MovieMk in
the Start > Start Search field, cross your fingers and press Enter?

Can you view the contents of your c:\Program Files\Movie Maker folder?
Should be right next to the Movie Maker 2.6 folder.

Maybe it would be worth a try to search
the nVidia support site for updated Vista
compatible video drivers.

There's some discussion of the issue you
are experiencing at the following forum:

Nice suggestion, I especially liked the bit about the Mic (?)

However, it seems the Start menu link is same as hitting the .exe direct -
General Access Denied !

Oh well, on with the next idea.

Thanks

Jethro

PS - how do I de-install Vista anyone?

Nice idea.

I downloaded the latest driver for my NVidia 7300 card. Still no luck.

I would run the Vista Advisor program but I unloaded it because I already
installed Vista !

Duh.

Any ideas on an easy way to roll back to XP Pro? I can live without the
transparent border I think.

Thanks for your inspiration.

I'm thinking I would format the hard drive and
then do a clean install of XP...but maybe the
following article will offer some ideas.

previous Windows installation after you install
Windows Vista

John, you are a star. This is the best article I have come across so far in
this dismal experience.

I am wrestling between a clean install (rather than upgrade) and keep Vista
or as you say, get ahead by going backwards and forsake the transparent
border for some extra speed and functionality in XP Pro.

Thank you for your help.

You're welcome.

Thanks for the feedback.

You also may want to consider the
option of running both XP and Vista.

I didn't think Movie Maker was an option in Vista Business, don't you need
home premium or Ultimate for it? In which case all is working as it should
do.

I've never had Vista Business on my machine
so I have no first hand experience with it but the
following chart indicates that all versions include
Movie Maker.

Windows Vista - Comparison Chart

Anyway...the OP installed Movie Maker 2.6...
shouldn't it work?

I'll install it today and see. I was going from memory, but on checking the
MS site it is unclear, as it only lists editing movies in movie maker in hd

I do suspect that with a bad install of MM 6, then MM2.6 wouldn't work, as
it cant find the right files.

Later.

Graham

Yep, Movie maker is in Vista business, took a couple of days as new hard
drive was faulty, but good old amazon had one straight out.
I think I'd do a repair install of Vista first.
