BUG: When you perform a Complete PC Restore of a Vista backup image; Windows
Update forgets all about the Updates (both Recommended & Optional) that you
have previously hidden.

Very annoying. I've lost track of how many times I've had tell Windows
Update to "Hide" the optional eighteen foreign language packs. Grrr....

That's because it is restoring from an image so it'll only have
whatever settings and updates were installed at the time of the image
file creation. Create a backup image AFTER you've installed/hidden the
updates.

Boy that drives you nuts don't it? The other day I was doing some
research on the best brand of blank DVD printable media. One of the
vendors I visited has a extensive list of which of it products were
tested on various DVD burner models, so I click on the link. It was in
PDF format and popped up the do you want to install some Chinese fonts
box. I figured, what the heck, without it the web page was just
gibberish and totally unreadable in any language. So guess what...
after installing the CHINESE FONT package I got a very detailed and
colorful multi column spreadsheet... in perfect English. Hmm...

Sorry you misunderstood.

The backup image I restored was created after installing some updates and
telling the rest to become hidden. After the restore of this same image,
Vista knows about the installed updates but completely forgets the ones I had
marked as hidden. Strange but true, I had done this many times now since
the first beta, and it is completely reproduceable.

Light travels faster than sound. This is why some people appear bright
until you hear them speak.........
Agreed!

Ah right. Very strange.
