When i try upgrading from Xp to Vista, it BSOD's at startup. When i do a
clean install on another HD, it works fine. How am I to fix the error?

Hi,

Have you disabled/uninstalled any antivirus software? It is best if it is
removed entirely, and this may include using a clean up utility from the
software maker. The error is a device driver error, and AV drivers are often
a source of error as most are not compatible yet.

People should learn to consult the Microsoft Knowledge Base.
Go to the Microsoft web page at: www.microsoft.com there
is a place in the upper right of the page to enter items to
search for. If you enter "0x0000007E" and initiate the
search you are rewarded with 55 links to causes for the
problem and recommended solutions.

It's really an extremely intelligent method of resolving
problems and that's exactly why Microsoft provided internet
access to the KB years ago. I know that I have been using
it for well over 10 years and found it to be the best place
to start when trying to resolve a problem with Microsoft
products.

Hi,

Has Vista setup completed? Or are you hanging on a reboot after the initial
expansion of files?

Basically, it needed to be done *before* you started the upgrade, and you
may not have an easy way out.

Vista has installed completely, and it loads fully, but BSODs right after
loading things. It BSODs in every safe mode, so.......

Hi,

So.......it indicates that something carrying over from the XP install is
the problem. As mentioned, there may not be an easy way out of this. Does
the stop error mention any specific modules?
