Vista Breaking Freeware?

Does anyone know anything about talk to the effect that Vista
will break much if not most of pre-Vista application code and
that the delays in it arise in large part from Microsoft having
to fix its own application code, such as Office.

I don't know if that's rumor or truth, but if it's truth a lot of
people are going to have a lot of trouble - the kind that spells $$.

Can anyone remember when the first official release of anything big by
MS worked decently?

Vista? MS is already trying to break freeware in XP. Try running some
freeware off a Samba server, for instance, and you will constantly be
nagged about the program not being signed, and that running it is a
potential security hazard.

Of course, getting the program signed is a matter of $$$.

2.1 worked too, but the first release of 3 was 3.0, not 3.3.

Hi Al,

Please notice the smiley at the end; it was not so much meant to be a
serious remark! You could even say that IBM-DOS (done by MS in its infancy)
was a decently working OS.
