How do I know if i have a beta version or not? I bought my laptop in june and
should have the retail version on my computer, but it says that I have the
beta version, how do find out for sure?

Type "winver" (without quotes) in the Start Search box of the Start Menu.
Press Enter. What are the version and build numbers (for example, Version
6.0, Build 6000)? Is there any note about an expiration date?

From where did you buy the notebook? No new notebooks from retail stores
should ever have beta software on them. They should have an OEM operating
system installed.

There is no note about an expiration date, it just says version 6.0 (Build
6000), it just says home premium

I bought the notebook from curries.digital, the message about it being a beta
version comes up when i go to the probems and solutions section thats when it
tells me my laptop isnt supported because its a beta version, is it possible
that this is just an error on my laptop?

6.0 6000 is not a Beta version it is the RTM version that has been shipping
on all Vista systems since the release almost a year ago.

this is why im confused, in the problems and solutions part of my laptop it
tells me i have the beta version and need to upgrade, it tells me my laptop
cannot be supported by mcrosoft because of this

Can you run Win Update? If you do and get a lot of updates then try Problems
and Solutions again after installing the updates?

In Problem Reports and Solutions, when you click on "View Problem History",
what Product is listed that states" beta version and need to upgrade"? What
Problem for the Product is listed? Right-click on the entry and choose
"View Problem Details". Copy and Paste the details into your reply to this
post...

Upgrade to the latest retail version of Windows Vista

The problem was caused by Windows Vista, which is created by Microsoft
Corporation. You are running a beta version of Windows Vista, which is no
longer supported by Microsoft Corporation

I just panicked too when it showed this on my laptop. It shows the following
- The problem was caused by Windows Vista, which was created by Microsoft
Corporation. You are running a beta version of Windows Vista, which is no
longer supported by Microsoft Corporation

So is it worth getting in touch with where I bought it and letting them know
or is the only way to get rid of it by deleting the entry?

The 'beta version' details are actually painted on so they cannot be removed
via a registry hack. In XP the beta details could be hacked.

Contact the store where you purchased the PC. Retail stores should not be
selling beta versions on their machines the should be the RTM (release to
manufacturer) versions.

Depends on where it is showing up. That message has been left behind,
accidentally I'm sure, and is unlikely to be a problem. Run Winver and if
you have Version 6 build 6000 or (6001 SP1) you have the RTM version

John, I tried installing Office Enterprise 2007 on my Vista (6.0 build 6000)
machine today and got this error because the Windows installer failed near
the end of the install process.

I don't know if it matters but it appears that Windows Live Update did not
upgrade me to SP1. And it also doesn't show me that I need to install SP1.
