Seeing as though this copy will be around until June 2007, does this mean
that the status of the copy will go from "Evaluation Copy" to "Retail Copy"
when the final version is available for the public?

No, the Beta is timebombed to stop working entirely on June 1 2007. It will
not turn into a retail version.

So it will remain a beta version even after the retail version hits? Will
this beta have the same features and eligible for the same updates as a
retail version when January 2007 rolls around?

No, this is a beta version, there is one gauranteed free "update" if you
authenticate, which is the RC! version. They might push out updates through
Windows Update like they did for the mobile devices.

At the end of the Beta Period/RC1 period, this software will no longer be
supported.

MSFT COULD offer a discount on the retail version to help drive their
numbers, they could send some free copies to people who actually reported
bugs, or they could tell everyone to go jump in a lake. I imagine they have
several different scenarios they are looking at, but can gaurantee they do
not know exactly what they are going to do for/to evey member of the 2
MILLLION downloaders.

Us testers ought to form a group and urge Microsoft to give us a
complimentary copy for helping them define their product.

ha,

you want a free copy of windows for getting to see it a year before its
released?

I've tested since win95 ... including the original lame Microsoft Network
.... i have felt happy just to see it a head of time.

these days there are probably 5,000,000 testers ... the real testers did all
the work before we even saw a screen shot.

Every beta tester who has purchased XP will be entitled to a discount by
purchasing Vista Upgrade edition instead of a full edition. This is one for
one for each copy of XP you have purchased.

:)
